The 2019 #L2G conference is brought to you by demand and success following previous Lead2Grow events in the North Coast. Bringing both an international and local perspective to the North Coast of NI, the event will be co-hosted by Causeway Enterprise Agency and Ulster University, facilitated by Mark Carruthers (BBC), featuring Keynote speakers Mark Pollock and Remco Hempenious, along with a diverse panel of high profile thought leaders in the creative industry.

The theme of this year’s #L2G conference is creativity and leadership. The conference will explore how to encourage, capture and deliver creative solutions for business success. Mark Carruthers

Mark joined BBC Northern Ireland in 1989 and since then he has presented countless radio and television programmes. Since September 2011 he has been BBC NI’s main politics presenter and currently fronts a string of programmes on television including Sunday Politics, Stormont Today and the weekly flagship programme The View. His presentation commitments have also included Good Morning Ulster and Evening Extra on BBC Radio Ulster, as well Northern Ireland’s nightly news programme, BBC Newsline, and the TV current affairs shows Let’s Talk and Spotlight. He has reported and presented on location down the years from India, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Colombia, Belgium and the USA.

Mark Pollock, Explorer & Collaboration Catalyst

Mark helps people achieve more than they thought possible. Unbroken by blindness in 1998, Mark went on to compete in ultra-endurance races across deserts, mountains, and the polar ice caps including being the first blind person to race to the South Pole. He also won silver and bronze medals for rowing at the Commonwealth Games and set up a motivational speaking business (

In 2010 Mark was left paralysed after falling from a second story window. He is now exploring the intersection where humans and technology collide and catalyzing collaborations that have never been done before. Through the Mark Pollock Trust ( he is unlocking $1billion to cure paralysis in our lifetime.

Selected by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader and appointed to the Global Futures Council on Human Enhancement, Mark is a UBS Global Visionary, is on the Board of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (USA) and is a Wings for Life Ambassador (Europe). He is the subject of the acclaimed documentary called Unbreakable, is a TED, Davos, The World Economic Forum, InnoTown, F.ounders, EG and Wired speaker and is co-Founder of the global running series called Run in the Dark (

He has been awarded honorary doctorates by The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and also from Queens University Belfast. And, he holds a diploma in Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century from Harvard University, degrees from Trinity College Dublin and The Smurfit Business School.

Mark is a leading expert in creativity, resilience, and collaboration. He is a leader who knows how to encourage, captures and cultivate atypical imaginative solutions and strategies in a way that has produced uncommon results on a world stage. Remco Hempenius

Remco Hempenius is a global leader with IKEA, working with expansion, innovation and the co-creation of a new IKEA in the big cities around the world. He is a creative thinker with a gift for developing leaders and helping organisations to shape a culture that enables people to flourish and the business to grow. At #L2G Remco will share principles and examples from his experience in leading in a fast-changing world and how to be successful as a leader.

Fionnuala Deane

Fionnuala Deane is a founding Director of Dog Ears, a children’s media company established in 2010, based in Derry.. Fionnuala was an Executive Producer on Series 1 & Series 2 of the International Emmy nominated animated pre-school TV series Puffin Rock. Fionnuala is an Executive producer of Puffin Rock the Movie, Dog Ears’ first animated feature film with partners Cartoon Saloon, Penguin Random House and China Nebula Pictures. She is also Executive Producer on Dog Ears new animated pre-school show, Saturday Club, launching soon on Hopster.

Prior to Dog Ears, Fionnuala ran an independent publishing company for twelve years. She’s managed large-scale projects and budgets working with a mixture of public and private sources over the last twenty years including private investors and agencies such as BFI, Creative Europe and Northern Ireland Screen.

Nuala Murphy

Nuala Murphy is a multi award winning entrepreneur, CEO of Moment Health – a healthtech solution that offers early intervention to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

Most recent accolates include Top 100 UK start ups, Sunday Times Maserati 100, Digital DNA Entrepreneur of the year, Top 40 Under 40 NI and, Belfast Top 50 Business award and Young Business Ambassador Award to name just a few.

René Mullin

René Mullin is a Printmaker/Artist, Arts Manager, Company Director, Author, Curator and Workshop Facilitator. All of these elements together converge to sustain what has been for 20 plus years a successful career within the Creative Arts and Environment sectors.

Her expertise lies mainly in the areas of Craft, Visual Arts and Architecture and she currently holds Director roles within Belfast Print Workshop, Mullin Design Associates, Kiln & Loom, Placed and Starling Bridge. She curated the 2018 Linenopolis Irish Linen Showcase and was a Board Director at Craft NI until 2017. 

Aaron Taylor


Aaron is currently CEO and Co-Founder at Franks Pets an e-commerce start up in the pet health food industry. Aaron is also Managing Partner and founder of Frankly, a venture development company, helping established global companies and VC’s facilitate spin outs, incubation and venture partnerships through a lean incubation process; Co-Founder of the Ormeau Baths co working space in Belfast and a Teaching Scholar at Ulster University Legal Innovation Centre

Previously Aaron was Co Founder and CEO of GoPrezzo, a games platform based in NY and Belfast that raised $3m in funding and scaled to over 3m Daily Users. Alongside this Aaron was Co Founder of ICONS Festival, a Belfast based Music, Film and Technology Festival that hosted over 3000 delegates, Co Founder of the Friday Night Mashup, one of the UK's biggest Tech Meetups and an Advisor to the Ignite Accelerator based in Belfast.
